The cost for a regular house tour is around $40 or so and you can pay more for an explore more tour which we did not. Other than that little hiccup we had a great time. If you want people to wear them everywhere on the grounds you should adjust your website accordingly. The website clearly states we do not need to wear one outdoors. About masks.I really didn't appreciate being barked at to wear one while I was OUTSIDE. There is no way to social distance inside the house. I can see why they ask you to wear a mask on the tour. What we got was a unique old house that was built by an eccentric millionaire which was still pretty cool! Our tour guide Melanie was amazing and full of fun stories and information but it was a bit crowded. I've wanted to visit this house for a long time and I guess I was expecting more weird twists and turns and maybe even some haunted stories. Surely a few pots of live plants/bulbs/ferns could add to the ambience, in there and throughout the house.ĭefinately quirky, a large house, not especially beautiful outside and definately not inside. Also plastic flowers in the conservatory area. There was piped music/sound effects throughout the tour which I didnt think really added anything. The house is sparsely furnished as all was left to the neice who kept what she wanted and sold the rest - an awful lot of 'stuff'. She died in the house and the work stopped immediately. Gardens were a bit disappointing, not very large, well kept, but nothing unusual - given the rest of the place. Whole place now closed until 1st April due to C 19 virus so hope they crack on and finish cafe and other works needed in this period. The latter covers some of the outer buildings too but only from the outside. We found the explore more tour better but does only make sense if you have done the main tour, so main or both not just explore more. Some of the works make sense as she was a short lady so low hand rails then suffered with arthritus so staircases with very low risers but most of it is insane. Apparently 15 builders 24/7 for 38 years, well they all saw her coming no wonder they were loyal a never ending cash cow. It also shows just how much money she had to be able to carry on with the work. ![]() I heard the history and just cannot understand why someone, her neice? could not persuade her to stop. It is definitely more of a curiosity than a 'must see'. We were on holiday and this seemed a quirky think to do so prepared to spend the money. You may as well get the explore more tour added on if you have the time just to reduce the overall cost, another $42 on its own of $12 if bought at same time. Santana Park.My main reason for the average rating is the cost at $42 for an adult for the main tour, that is extreme for an hours tour. Nearby landmarks include the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall and Frank M. Take a bus to one of the nearby stops or drive to the site and leave your car in the parking lot.
